Acceptable Blower Door Diagnostic Testing Certifications

  • BPI Building Analyst – This certification program trains individuals to go beyond a traditional energy audit and perform comprehensive, whole-home assessments, identify problems at the root cause, and prescribe and prioritize solutions based on building science.
  • BPI Envelope – This certification program trains individuals to quantify building performance and prescribe improvements to help tighten the building envelope (shell), stop uncontrolled air leakage, and optimize comfort, durability, and HVAC performance.
  • BPI Infiltration and Duct Leakage (IDL) Certification – Just introduced in the fall of 2014, this BPI certification is Intended to be a simple way for technicians of builders, remodelers, HVAC and insulation contractors to gain skills needed to offer duct leakage and blower door tests, in compliance with IECC codes for new home construction or existing home remodels.
  • BuildRIGHT Duct and Envelope Verifier Training – BuildRIGHT has designed its “Diagnostic Energy Tester” one day training course to teach participants the skills needed perform the building diagnostics testing required to verify compliance with the 2012 IECC. This comprehensive course includes building science principles as they relate to the code, mandatory requirements of the code, and both theory and hands-on use of a blower door and duct pressure test equipment.
  • ESCO Duct and Envelope Verifier Training – This training and certification program is designed to assure a technician has the knowledge, skill and ability to properly determine the leakage rate of a building's thermal envelope and heating and cooling duct system ensuring code compliance, optimal system performance, less energy consumption, longer equipment life and greater customer satisfaction.
  • IAER DET Verifier Training – This one day course is designed by the Illinois Association of Energy Raters (IAER) to introduce the skills necessary to perform the diagnostic testing required for new homes by the 2012 IL Energy Code. Certified individuals are able to test the leakage of a building envelope and duct system and evaluate the results as measured against Illinois code requirements.

  • Sheet Metal Workers' Local 265 Duct and Envelope Verifier Training

Acceptable Duct Diagnostic Testing Certifications

  • Aeroseal – The Aeroseal process involves placing duct systems under pressure and causing polymer particles to stick first to the edges of a leak, then to each other until the leak is closed. The equipment used is capable of measuring duct leakage and all Aeroseal contractors are trained in its use.
  • BPI Heating – This certification program trains individuals in how to optimize the performance of heating equipment to help save energy and ensure occupant comfort, health, and safety.
  • BPI Air Conditioning and Heat Pump – This certification program helps individuals understand the role of these systems within a whole home framework and trains them in how to diagnose and correct problems properly to achieve peak performance.
